George E. Seney

George Ebbert Seney (born May 29, 1832 in Uniontown , Fayette County , Pennsylvania , †  June 11, 1905 in Tiffin , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1891 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In the year he was born, George Seney, grandson of Congressman Joshua Seney (1756–1798) from Maryland , came to Tiffin, Ohio with his parents. He later attended Norwalk Seminary . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1853, he began to work in this profession in Tiffin. In 1857 he became an appellate judge. Between 1862 and 1865 he served in the Union Army during the Civil War , where he achieved the rank of first lieutenant. After the war he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In June 1876 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in St. Louis .

In the congressional election of 1882 , Seney was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Benjamin Le Fevre on March 4, 1883 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1891 . Between 1885 and 1887 he represented the seventh district of his state there before he returned to the fifth district.

In 1890 George Seney renounced another candidacy. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. He died on June 11, 1905 in Tiffin, where he was also buried.
