Charles Quinn Hildebrant (born October 17, 1864 in Wilmington , Ohio , †  March 31, 1953 ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1905 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Hildebrant attended the public schools in his home country and then studied at Ohio State University in Columbus . Between 1890 and 1899 he was a clerk at the District Court in Clinton County . Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party . In the 1900 congressional elections he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Seth W. Brown on March 4, 1901 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1905 . From 1903 he was chairman of the Committee on Accounts . In 1904 he was not re-elected.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Hildebrant worked, among other things, in agriculture. In June 1908 he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in Chicago , where William Howard Taft was nominated as a presidential candidate. Between 1915 and 1917 he held the office of Secretary of State for the State of Ohio; from 1927 to 1941 he was Mayor of Wilmington. He died there on March 31, 1953.
