Henry Swearingen

Henry Swearingen (* circa 1795 in West Virginia , † 1849 on the high seas) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . December 3, 1838 to March 3, 1841, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 19th  congressional district of the state of Ohio .

biography

Swearingen was born in West Virginia around 1795. He moved to Ohio , where he settled in Steubenville . He served as sheriff in Jefferson County between 1824 and 1828 and between 1830 and 1832.

From 1838 to 1841 he was a member of the US House of Representatives. He was elected to succeed Daniel Kilgore in a special election. He succeeded in being re-elected once. In 1841 he left again.

Swearingen died on the high seas in 1849. He was also buried there.
