James J. Faran

James John Faran (born December 29, 1808 in Cincinnati , Ohio , † December 12, 1892 ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . From 1845 to 1849 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the first  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

After completing his law degree at Miami University in 1831 , he was admitted to the bar in 1833. He then took up a lawyer in Cincinnati. In 1835 he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives for four years . He sat before the house in the years 1838 and 1839 as speaker . He sat in the State Senate from 1839 to 1843.

From 1845 to 1849 he was a representative of the 1st District of Ohio in the US House of Representatives. After leaving Congress in 1854, Governor William Medill hired him to oversee the construction of the Ohio State House . Subsequently, he served as Mayor of Cincinnati from 1855 to 1857 . In 1860 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Baltimore . From 1844 to 1881 he was an editor at the Cincinnati Enquirer . He retired into private life, died in Cincinnati in 1892 and was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery .
