Alfred Gaither Allen (born July 23, 1867 in Wilmington , Ohio , † December 9, 1932 in Cincinnati , Ohio) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . March 4, 1911 to March 3, 1917, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the second  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Allen was born on a farm in Wilmington. There he graduated from high school in 1886. In 1890 he finished his law studies at the University of Cincinnati . During his student days he was a member of Phi Delta Phi . In 1890 he was admitted to the bar in Cincinnati. From 1906 to 1908 he was a member of the Cincinnati City Council.

In 1910 Allen was elected to the US House of Representatives as a representative of Ohio's 2nd District. He sat there until 1917, when he voluntarily resigned from Congress. From then on he worked as a lawyer again. In 1920 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco . Between 1925 and 1926 he served as president of the Cincinnati Bar Association. Allen died in Cincinnati in 1932. He was buried in the Sugar Grove Cemetery in his hometown.

Allen was married to Clara B. Forbes. They both had two children.
