Addison S. McClure (1896)

Addison S. McClure (* 10. October 1839 in Wooster , Ohio ; † 17th April 1903 ) was an American politician of the Republican Party . March 4, 1881 to March 3, 1883, and March 4, 1895 to March 3, 1897, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 17th and 18th  congressional districts of the State of Ohio.

biography

After giving birth in Wooster, McClure attended schools there. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1861. In the same year he joined the US Army . There he was involved in the Second Vicksburg Campaign until his release in 1864 . From 1867 to 1881, McClure served as postmaster at Wooster. In 1868 and 1876 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention .

In 1880 McClure was elected to the US House of Representatives in the 18th District of Ohio. In 1882 he was not re-elected. In 1894 he managed to move into the House again , this time in the 17th district. Here, too, he only served one legislative period.

After leaving politics, he returned to his original profession. McClure died in his native town in 1903 and was buried there.

He had a son with his wife, Mary L. Brigham.
