William S. Groesbeck

William Scolum Groesbeck (born July 24, 1815 in Kinderhook , New York , † July 7, 1897 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . March 4, 1857 to March 3, 1859 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the second  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

William Groesbeck was born in Kinderhook. In 1816 he moved to Cincinnati with his parents. There he attended public schools and August College . He studied law at Miami University . In 1836 he was admitted to the bar and worked in Cincinnati from then on.

As a candidate for the Democratic Party, Groesbeck was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1856 for the 2nd District of Ohio. In 1858 he no longer ran for re-election. In 1861 he was a member of the Peace Conference that was held in Washington, DC . Groesbeck was a member of the State Senate from 1862 to 1864 .

Groesbeck died in Cincinnati in 1897. He was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery .
