Warren J. Duffey (1913)

Warren Joseph Duffey (born January 24, 1886 in Toledo , Ohio , †  July 7, 1936 there ) was an American politician . Between 1933 and 1936 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Warren Duffey attended public schools in his home country and then St. John's University , also in Toledo. After a subsequent law degree at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and his admission to the bar in 1911, he began to work in this profession in Toledo. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives in 1913 and 1914 ; from 1917 to 1918 he sat on the city council of Toledo. Between 1919 and 1932 he was district chairman for the Democrats in Lucas County . In 1932 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago , where Franklin D. Roosevelt was nominated as a presidential candidate.

In the 1932 congressional election , Duffey was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the ninth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Republican Wilbur M. White on March 4, 1933 . After being re-elected, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until his death on July 7, 1936. During his time in Congress, it was there that the first of the Federal Government's New Deal laws were passed under President Roosevelt. In 1935, the provisions of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution were applied for the first time , according to which the legislative period of the Congress ends or begins on January 3rd.

In 1936 Duffey was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. However, due to his death four months before the elections, that was meaningless anyway. Warren Duffey was buried in his hometown of Toledo.
