Harvey C. Garber
Harvey Cable Garber (born July 6, 1866 in Hill Grove , Darke County , Ohio , † March 23, 1938 in Naples , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1907 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .
Career
In 1872, Harvey Garber moved with his parents to Greenville , where he attended public schools. He then worked in the telegraph industry and was manager of the Western Union Telegraph Co. He then headed the Central Union Telephone Co. branch in Ohio. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1890 and 1893 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives . From 1902 to 1908 he was State Chairman of the Democrats.
In the 1902 congressional election , Garber was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Robert B. Gordon on March 4, 1903 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1907 . In 1906 he renounced another candidacy.
In 1910, Harvey Garber moved to Columbus , where he was Assistant to the President of Bell Telephone Co. for Ohio, Indiana and Illinois between 1910 and 1915 . After later studying law and his admission as a lawyer in 1921, he began to work in this profession in Columbus. He died in Naples on March 23, 1938 and was buried in Greenville.
