Richard Almgill Harrison (born April 8, 1824 in Thirsk , Yorkshire , United Kingdom , †  July 30, 1904 in Columbus , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1861 and 1863 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1832 Richard Harrison and his parents came to Ohio from his home in England , where he attended public schools. After studying law at the Cincinnati Law School and being admitted to the bar in 1846, he began working in this profession in London . At the same time he embarked on a political career. In 1858 and 1859 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Ohio ; from 1860 to 1861 he was a member of the State Senate .

After the resignation of MP Thomas Corwin , Harrison was elected as a unionist in the due by-election for the seventh seat of Ohio to his successor in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on July 4, 1861. By March 3, 1863 he was able to end the current legislative period in Congress . This time was marked by the events of the civil war . After serving in the US House of Representatives, Richard Harrison practiced as a lawyer in Columbus. He died there on July 30, 1904. He had been married to Maria Louisa Warner since 1847, with whom he had seven children.
