Charles Landon Knight (born June 18, 1867 in Milledgeville , Baldwin County , Georgia , †  September 26, 1933 in Akron , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1923 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Knight first attended public schools and then until 1889 Vanderbilt University in Nashville ( Tennessee ). After studying law at Columbia University in New York City and being admitted to the bar in 1892, he began working in this profession in Bluefield ( West Virginia ). He had previously studied in Europe for a time in the early 1890s. From 1896 he was also active in the newspaper business. From 1896 to 1900 he worked for the Philadelphia Times ; from 1900 to 1933 he was editor and publisher of the Beacon Journal in Akron. He was also active in stockbreeding. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1916 and 1924 he took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions .

In the congressional elections of 1920 Knight was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 14th  constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Democrat Martin Davey on March 4, 1921 . Until March 3, 1923 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . In 1922, Knight ran unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the upcoming Ohio gubernatorial election . After his time in the US House of Representatives, he worked in the newspaper industry again. He died on September 26, 1933 in Akron, where he was also buried. With his wife, Clara Irene Shively, he had two sons who were also successful in the media world and founded the media company Knight Ridder .
