John Hastings (politician)

John Hastings (* 1778 in the Kingdom of Ireland , †  December 8, 1854 in Hanoverton , Ohio ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . From 1839 to 1843 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 17th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

John Hastings was born in Ireland. He emigrated to the United States; when this happened is not known. From then on he worked in agriculture . He studied law in Lisbon and was admitted to the bar. He moved to Mississippi to practice law. He later returned to Ohio, more precisely to Hanover Township , where he again worked in agriculture.

Hastings was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1838 as a representative of Ohio's 17th Congressional District. There he sat for a total of two legislative terms. In 1843 he left the Congress .

Hastings died near Hanoverton in 1854. He was buried in the local Grove Hill Cemetery .
