Amos H. Jackson

Amos Henry Jackson (born May 10, 1846 in Franklin , Delaware County , New York , †  August 30, 1924 in Fremont , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1905 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1854 Amos Jackson moved with his parents to Gibson and in 1862 to a farm near Corning . He attended the public schools in his respective homeland. In 1866 he came to Ohio, where he worked as a carpenter for several years. After that, he sold haberdashery from a sales van. Since 1882 he was based in Fremont, where he traded in haberdashery again. He also worked in the shoe business. Later he worked in the craft. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1897 and 1901 he was mayor of the city of Fremont.

In the congressional elections of 1902 Jackson was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th  constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Democrat James A. Norton on March 4, 1903 . Since he refused to run again in 1904, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1905 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, Jackson returned to the craft. In 1922 he retired. He died on August 30, 1924 in Fremont, where he was also buried.
