Albert G. Riddle
Albert Gallatin Riddle (* 28. May 1816 in Monson , Hampden County , Massachusetts , † 16th May 1902 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician of the Republican Party . March 4, 1861 to March 3, 1863 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 19th congressional district of the state of Ohio .
biography
Riddle was born in Monson. In 1817 he moved to Newbury Township with his parents . There he finished the school that he had previously started at his birthplace. He then studied law . In 1840 he was admitted to the bar. He practiced from then on in Geauga County . From 1840 to 1846 he was a public prosecutor there. From 1848 to 1850 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives . In 1850 he moved to Cleveland , where he again served as a prosecutor from 1850 to 1859.
From 1861 to 1863, Riddle was a member of the US House of Representatives for a term. There he represented the 19th District of Ohio. He was no longer proposed for re-election by his party. After leaving the House, he was Consul of the United States in Matanzas , Cuba from 1863 to 1864 . He returned to the United States and settled in the capital as a lawyer. After founding Howard University in Washington, he was a professor there for several years.
In 1902 Riddle died in Washington. He was buried there in Rock Creek Cemetery . Riddle was married to Caroline Avery. They both had 6 children.
