Nikolaus Rippel

Nikolaus Rippel (born June 4, 1594 in Basel ; † March 15, 1666 there ) was a Swiss politician.

Life

Nikolaus Rippel, son of a glass painter and politician, worked 1612–1615 as a clerk in Salzburg and from 1616 in Basel. 1637–1654 he was a council clerk in his hometown and 1654–1658 town clerk. In 1658 he was elected chief guild master and in 1660 mayor. He undertook over 60 embassies for his hometown. He was one of the last Basel mayors to come from the craftsman class and was close friends with Johann Rudolf Wettstein, who was the same age .
