William W. Skiles

William Woodburn Skiles (born December 11, 1849 in Stoughstown , Cumberland County , Pennsylvania , †  January 9, 1904 in Shelby , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1904 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1854, William Skiles came with his parents to Richland County , Ohio, where he attended public schools. He then worked as a teacher for a few years. Until 1876 he studied at Baldwin University in Berea . After studying law and his admission to the bar in 1878, he began to work in Shelby in this profession. Later he got into the stock business. He was also the director of various craft companies. From 1893 until his death he was President of Citizens Bank . From 1885 to 1904 he served as chairman of the Shelby School Board. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Since 1900 he was a member of the state executive of this party.

In the 1900 congressional election , Skiles was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 14th  constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Winfield S. Kerr on March 4, 1901 . After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until his death on January 9, 1904 . From 1903 he headed the patent committee there. William Skiles had been married to Dora Matson since 1877, with whom he had two children.
