William J. Keating, 1971

William John Keating (* the 30th March 1927 in Cincinnati , Ohio ; † 20th May 2020 ) was an American politician of the Republican Party . January 3, 1971 until his retirement in 1974 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the first  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

William J. Keating was born in Cincinnati. There he attended public schools. During the Second World War he was in the service of the US Navy as a 2nd class seaman. In 1945 he joined the high school at St. Xavier High School from Cincinnati. He then studied at the University of Cincinnati law . He earned his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor there in 1950. In the same year he was admitted to the bar. From 1957 to 1958 he was assistant to the Attorney General of Ohio. From 1958 to 1967 he served as a judge for the city of Cincinnati and Hamilton County . He served on the Cincinnati City Council for three years from 1967. In 1972 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Miami Beach .

In the 1970 congressional election , Keating was elected to the US House of Representatives as a representative of Ohio's 1st District. In 1974 he announced his resignation. After leaving the House of Representatives, he held various positions in commercial companies, especially in the newspaper and publishing industry.

Keating last lived in his native city.
