St. Xavier High School (abbreviated St. X , Latin Academia Sancti Xaverii Cincinnatensis ) is a boys' high school with Roman Catholics - Jesuit sponsorship in Finneytown , a CDP settlement near Cincinnati in the US state of Ohio . St. Xavier was the grammar school of the Franz Xaver College (later Xavier University ), which was founded in 1831 as an Athenaeum . It is the oldest high school in Cincinnati and one of the oldest high schools in the country, making it older than many universities. St. Xavier is one of four Catholic boys' high schools in Cincinnati. It is the largest private school in Ohio, with over 1,500 students in 2006.
