William W. Ellsberry

William Wallace Ellsberry (born December 18, 1833 in New Hope , Brown County , Ohio , †  September 7, 1894 in Georgetown , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1887 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Ellsberry attended public schools in Brown County and then graduated from private school in Clermont County . He worked as a teacher for two years. After studying medicine at the Cincinnati College of Medicine and Ohio Medical College and being admitted as a doctor, he began working in this profession in Georgetown. At times he also worked as a district auditor. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In June 1880 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Cincinnati , at which Winfield Scott Hancock was nominated as a presidential candidate.

In the congressional election of 1884 , Ellsberry was elected to the Eleventh constituency of Ohio in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded John W. McCormick on March 4, 1885 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1886, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1887 . After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, William Ellsberry practiced as a doctor again. He died on September 7, 1894 in Georgetown, where he was also buried.
