David T. Disney

David Tiernan Disney (born August 25, 1803 in Baltimore , Maryland , † March 14, 1857 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party . From 1849 to 1855 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the first  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

David T. Disney was born in Baltimore. In 1807 his parents moved with him to Ohio. After attending general schools, he studied law and was admitted to the bar. He opened a law firm in Cincinnati . In 1825 he worked as an editor for a newspaper. He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives in 1829, 1831, and 1832 . There he served as a speaker in 1832 . From 1833 to 1834 and from 1843 to 1844 he was a member of the State Senate . This he sat in 1833 as president. In 1834 he was a member of the commission that established the border between Ohio and Michigan . In 1848 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention .

In 1849 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as representative of Ohio's 1st Congressional District. He was a member of the House until 1855. There he was Chairman of the Committee on Elections and the Committee on Public Lands . In 1854 he did not stand for election again.

He died in Washington DC and was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. He was married to Sarah Carter Disney. With her he had two children, Mary Disney Buttles and Richard Moran Disney.
