Chester C. Bolton

Chester Castle Bolton (* 5. September 1882 in Cleveland , Ohio ; † 29. October 1939 ) was an American politician of the Republican Party . March 4, 1929 to January 3, 1937 and January 3, 1939 until his death he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for 22  congressional districts of the State of Ohio.

biography

Chester C. Bolton was born in Cleveland. There he attended public schools. He studied at the University School in Cleveland and graduated in 1901. He graduated from Harvard University in 1905. He then worked in the steel industry in Cleveland until 1917. From 1905 to 1915 he served in the Ohio National Guard . During the First World War he was called back into active service in 1917. He then served there u. a. the deputy minister of war as advisor. In the same year he was appointed to the General Staff and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel . He was then a deputy inspector of the 101st Division. In December 1918 he was recalled from active service. He returned to his native city and became director of several commercial enterprises. He was also active in animal husbandry. He was a member of the Ohio Senate from 1923 to 1928 . There he was President pro Tempore in 1927 and 1928 . In 1928 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Kansas City .

In the 1928 congressional elections , he moved into the US House of Representatives as a representative of the 22nd District of Ohio. He was able to defend his seat in the three subsequent elections. In 1934 he was chairman of the Republican campaign committee for the 1934 congressional election . In 1936 he lost his seat to the Democrat Anthony A. Fleger . In 1938 he was able to regain the seat of Fleger. Bolton died on October 29, 1939 in his native town. He was buried in Lake View Cemetery . From then on, his wife sat as his successor in the House of Representatives.

During his lifetime, Bolton was married to Frances P. Bingham . His son Oliver P. Bolton was also a member of the House of Representatives.
