Samuel S. Yoder

Samuel S. Yoder (born August 16, 1841 in Berlin , Holmes County , Ohio , †  May 11, 1921 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1891 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Yoder attended public schools in his home country and then Wooster University , also in Ohio. This was followed by studies at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor . During the civil war he served in the Union Army between 1862 and 1865 , where he rose to lieutenant. He then studied medicine. After his admission as a doctor, he practiced in Bluffton in his new profession. He was also Mayor of Bluffton between 1868 and 1878. In 1878 he moved to Lima . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1880, he began to work there in his new profession. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1883 and 1885 he was a member of the state executive committee of his party. From 1882 to 1886 he served as a probate judge in Allen County .

In the congressional election of 1886 , Yoder was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington in the fourth constituency of Ohio, where he succeeded Charles Marley Anderson on March 4, 1887 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1891 . In 1890 he renounced another candidacy. Between December 8, 1891 and August 7, 1893, he succeeded Adoniram J. Holmes from the ceremonial role of Sergeant at Arms in the US House of Representatives.

After his tenure in Congress ended, Yoder returned to practice as a lawyer. He also worked in the real estate industry in the federal capital Washington. He died there on May 11, 1921. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery , Virginia .
