Melvin Morella Boothman (born October 16, 1846 in Bryan , Ohio , †  March 5, 1904 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1891 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Melvin Boothman attended public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture. During the final phase of the civil war , he served in the Union army from January 1864 . He made the Atlanta campaign of General William T. Sherman with. After studying law at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and being admitted to the bar in 1871, he began working in this profession in Bryan. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1871 and 1875 he was a chamberlain in Williams County .

In the congressional election of 1886 Boothman was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Democrat William D. Hill on March 4, 1887 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1891 . In 1890 he renounced another candidacy. After serving in the US House of Representatives, Boothman practiced again as a lawyer in Bryan, where he died on March 5, 1904.
