history
Bryan was founded in 1840 and named after State Auditor John A. Bryan. In 1854 it was a small village with 40–50 houses. The place soon became known for its artesian wells . Almost every house in Bryan had a well like this. They were easy and cheap to make and earned the name Fountain City . The water, which was 10–13 degrees cold even in midsummer, contained unusually high concentrations of magnesium and iron and was classified as very healthy.
The place developed into a local trade and industrial center and was granted city status in 1941. In 1946, 5,386 people lived here.
Infrastructure
