Richard Cramer (born July 3, 1889 in Bryan , Ohio - † August 9, 1960 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Richard Cramer began his career in the theater, but switched to the film industry in Hollywood when he started talking. Between 1928 and 1952 Richard Cramer starred in over 250 films, often portraying villains in B-Westerns or other smaller film productions. In the case of larger films, however, his appearances were mostly small and without mentioning in the credits. Because of his strong, rather ugly appearance and his rough voice, he mostly embodied criminals, henchmen and Westerners. Perhaps most vividly he was remembered for his six appearances alongside Laurel and Hardy , including as a dangerous prison escape in On the High Seas (1940). He also assisted WC Fields in the short film The Fatal Glass of Beer , which was produced by Mack Sennett . He was sometimes heralded in film credits as Rychard Cramer or Dick Cramer.

Richard Cramer died of cirrhosis in 1960 at the age of 71.
