William H. Enochs

William Henry Enochs (born March 29, 1842 in Middleburg , Noble County , Ohio , †  July 13, 1893 in Ironton , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Enochs attended public schools in his home country and then studied at Ohio University in Athens . During the Civil War he was an officer in an infantry unit from West Virginia . He was promoted to colonel and brevet brigadier general. After studying law at the Cincinnati Law School and being admitted to the bar in 1866, he began to work in this profession in Ironton. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives in 1870 and 1871 .

In the congressional election of 1890 Enochs was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Jacob J. Pugsley on March 4, 1891 . After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until his death on July 13, 1893 . Since March 4, 1893, he represented there as the successor to Robert E. Doan the tenth district of his state. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery , Virginia .
