Robert Maynard Murray

Robert Maynard Murray (born November 28, 1841 in Concord , Lake County , Ohio , †  August 2, 1913 in Cleveland , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1885 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Murray attended Willoughby public schools and Oberlin College . After a subsequent law degree at Cleveland Law School and his admission as a lawyer, he worked in a law firm in this profession until 1864. In 1864 he served in the Union Army for 100 days during the Civil War . He then worked in Ohio for the First National Bank in Painesville . He was Mayor of Painesville from 1877 to 1879. Then he moved to Piqua , where he made parts for agricultural implements. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1882 Murray was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Republican Henry Lee Morey on March 4, 1883 . Since he was not confirmed in 1884, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1885 . After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Robert Murray resumed his previous activities. From 1892 he was resident in Cleveland, where he died on August 2, 1913.
