James B. "Jim" Renacci (* 3. December 1958 in Monongahela , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . Since January 3, 2011, he is a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 16th  congressional district of the state of Ohio . He lost the election for a seat in the United States Senate in 2018 .

Family, education and work

The son of a railroad worker and a nurse, Jim Renacci was born in Monongahela, a suburb of Pittsburgh . In 1976 he graduated from Ringgold High School in Monongahela. He then studied business administration at Indiana University of Pennsylvania until 1980 . He then became a Certified Public Accountant .

Renacci founded several accounting firms with which he made over $ 30 million in assets; In 2018 he was considered the wealthiest Congressman in Ohio. He is a co-owner of Columbus Destroyers , an Arena Football League football team , and the Lancaster JetHawks , a California League baseball team.

Renacci is a member of the Roman Catholic Church and lives with his wife in Wadsworth . You have three daughters.

Political career

Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party between 1999 and 2003 as chairman of the city council in Wadsworth , Ohio. From 2004 to 2008 he was mayor of this city.

In the 2010 election to the US House of Representatives , he was elected as a representative of the 16th Congressional electoral district of Ohio to succeed John Boccieri in the US House of Representatives. Renacci took office on January 3, 2011 and was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including 2016 . The mandate runs until January 3, 2019. He is or was a member of the Committee on Ways and Means, including two of its sub-committees and the Budget Committee. He is also a member of several Congressional Caucuses .

In January 2018, Renacci announced that in the November 2018 election he would not be running again for his previous seat in the US House of Representatives, but in the simultaneous election to the US Senate against the Democratic mandate holder Sherrod Brown . He made the nomination in the Republican primary in May 2018 . After Renacci announced the high sum of $ 4.5 million in donations for the first quarter of 2018, it was announced in April that 4 million (88 percent) of them came from his own assets. His rival candidate, Brown, had raised $ 3.3 million in donations over the same period. Brown prevailed with 53 to 47 percent of the vote. Renacci resigns from Congress on January 3, 2019.
