Robert M. Switzer
Robert Mauck Switzer (born March 6, 1863 in Gallipolis , Ohio , † October 28, 1952 ) was an American politician . Between 1911 and 1919 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Robert Switzer attended the public schools in his home country, the Gallia Academy and the Rio Grande College . Between 1883 and 1887 he worked as a teacher; from 1888 to 1892 he was Deputy Sheriff and Deputy Chief of Police in Gallia County . After studying law at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and at Ohio State University in Columbus and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in Gallipolis. Between 1893 and 1900 he was a district attorney in Gallia County. Politically, he joined the Republican Partyon. In 1900 and 1920 he took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions , at which William McKinley and later Warren G. Harding were nominated as presidential candidates.
In the 1910 congressional elections , Switzer was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Adna R. Johnson on March 4, 1911 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1919 . During this time the First World War fell . In addition, in 1913 the 16th and 17th amendments were ratified. In 1918, Switzer was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.
After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. He was also the legal representative of the city of Gallipolis. He died there on October 28, 1952.
