Sherrod Brown (* 9. November 1952 in Mansfield , Ohio ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party and member of the US Senate for the state of Ohio. He won the Senate seat on November 7, 2006, and succeeded previous Republican Senator Mike DeWine on January 3, 2007 .

Brown, one of the ELCA are members Lutheran family comes from, graduated from the Yale University in 1974 after studying Slavic studies the Bachelor of Arts . He continued his studies at Ohio State University in Columbus and received a Master of Arts in 1981 . From 1979 to 1981 he taught at the Mansfield Department of Ohio State University.

From 1975 to 1982 Brown served as the Democratic Representative in the Ohio House of Representatives . He then held the post of Secretary of State of Ohio from 1983 to 1991 . In 1992 Brown won a seat in the United States House of Representatives , which he served continuously until 2006. In the Senate election on November 7, 2006, Brown won the Senate seat with 56% to 44% against Mike DeWine . In the 2012 election he was able to defend his seat, as in the election in 2018 , the former congressman in Brown Jim Renacci hit with 53 to 47 percent. Brown is a member of the Ethics Committee and the Veterans Committee .

Brown was at times considered a possible Democratic candidate for the 2020 presidential election . After his Senate election victory in 2018, he made his consideration public. However, on March 7, 2019, he declared that he would not run for 2020.

Brown is the columnist Connie Schultz , a Pulitzer Prize , married -Gewinnerin that the newspaper Plain Dealer operates. They have four children together.
