James W. Huffman

James Wylie Huffman (born September 13, 1894 in Chandlersville , Ohio , † May 20, 1980 in Pickerington , Ohio) was an American politician for the Democrats from Ohio.

Huffman served during the First World War in the Army . After the war, he began studying law at the University of Chicago and graduated in 1922. After that, he began practicing as a lawyer in Chicago ( Illinois ). A year later he returned to Ohio. There he worked from 1924 to 1926 as Secretary General of the Governor. From 1927 he worked for two years in the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio .

In 1944, he ran for the Democratic nomination for the post of governor of Ohio , but was only elected third in the election. After serving in various positions within the Ohio government, he was appointed to the vacant seat of Harold Hitz Burton in the US Senate . In this position he only served from 1945 to 1946. A by-election was used to elect a successor for him, who should hold the seat until the end of the legislative period.
