Joseph Kerr

Joseph Kerr (born 1765 in Kerrtown , Franklin County , Province of Pennsylvania , † August 22, 1837 in Lake Providence , Louisiana ) was an American politician ( Democratic Republican Party ).

Kerr moved to Ohio in 1792 . He served in various positions in the Northwest Territory . After the state of Ohio was established, he was elected to the Ohio Senate in 1804 and 1810 . In 1808 he first entered the Ohio House of Representatives and was re-elected three times. He also served as a brigadier general in the British-American War and was responsible for supplying the troops in the northwest.

In 1814 he was elected to the US Senate to take over the vacated seat of Thomas Worthington , who had successfully run for the office of governor of Ohio. Kerr kept the seat in the Senate until 1815. He did not seek re-election.

In 1826 his extensive farm went bankrupt. Then he moved to Memphis ( Tennessee ) and later to Lake Providence, Louisiana, where he died 1837th
