William A. Trimble
William Allen Trimble (born April 4, 1786 in Woodford County , Kentucky , † December 13, 1821 in Washington DC ) was an American Army officer and politician ( Democratic Republican Party ) who represented the state of Ohio in the US Senate .
After graduating from Transylvania College in Lexington , William Trimble began a career as a lawyer. He studied law and then practiced after his admission to the bar in 1811 also for a short time in Highland County , Ohio, before he then turned to the military. With both the Ohio militia and the US Army , he took part in numerous Indian campaigns, including against the Potawatomi in 1812. That year he was first major in the Ohio Volunteers , and later he held the same rank in the 26th Infantry Regiment of the Army . In 1814 he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of the First United States Infantry . After being transferred to the 8th Infantry Regiment, he served there for another four years until he left in 1819.
From March 4 of this year Trimble belonged to the US Senate in Washington, where he was close to the wing around the future US President John Quincy Adams within the Democratic Republicans , which at that time was the only party in the United States . He died before the end of his term in office in December 1821. Ohio's governor Ethan Allen Brown was elected to succeed him.
