Dennis D. Donovan (born January 31, 1859 in Texas , Henry County , Ohio , †  April 21, 1941 in Napoleon , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1895 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Dennis Donovan attended public schools in his homeland and then the Northern Indiana Normal School in Valparaiso . He then worked as a teacher for some time. He also worked in trade and in the timber business. Between 1885 and 1888 he was a post office owner in Deshler . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1887 and 1889 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives . After a subsequent law degree at George Washington University and his admission as a lawyer in 1895, he began to work in Deshler in this profession.

In the congressional election of 1890 Donovan was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Melvin M. Boothman on March 4, 1891 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1895 . Since 1893 he represented there as the successor to Fernando C. Layton the fifth district of his state. In 1894 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Dennis Donovan practiced again as a lawyer in Deshler. In 1897 he moved his residence and his law firm to Napoleon, also in Ohio. In 1898 he tried unsuccessfully to nominate his party for gubernatorial elections . He died on April 21, 1941 in Napoleon, where he was also buried.
