John O'Neill

John O'Neill (born December 17, 1822 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , †  May 25, 1905 in Zanesville , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1863 and 1865 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John O'Neill attended public schools in Frederick ( Maryland ) and then Georgetown College in Washington, DC He then graduated from Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg . After studying law at Georgetown College and being admitted to the bar in 1842, he began to work in this profession from 1844 in Zanesville. In 1845 he served as the prosecutor in Muskingum County there . He also held several local offices in this district. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1862 O'Neill was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the 13th  constituency of Ohio, where he succeeded Republican Samuel T. Worcester on March 4, 1863 . By March 3, 1865, he was able to complete a legislative term in Congress that was shaped by the events of the civil war .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, John O'Neill practiced as a lawyer again. Between 1883 and 1885 he was a member of the Ohio Senate . He died on May 25, 1905 in Zanesville, where he was also buried.
