David S. Dennison

David Short Dennison Jr. (born July 29, 1918 in Poland , Mahoning County , Ohio , †  September 21, 2001 in Warren , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1957 and 1959 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1936, David Dennison graduated from the Western Reserve Academy in Hudson . He then studied at Williams College in Williamstown ( Massachusetts ) until 1940 . In 1942 and 1943 he worked for the American Field Service , now known as AFS for Intercultural Encounters . After studying law at Western Reserve University Law School and being admitted to the bar in 1945, he began working in this profession. Between 1953 and 1956 he was an assistant to the Attorney General of Ohio. Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the congressional elections of 1956 Dennison was elected to the Eleventh constituency of Ohio in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Oliver P. Bolton on January 3, 1957 . Since he was not confirmed in 1958, he could only hold one term in Congress until January 3, 1959 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, Dennison served as an advisor to the Civil Rights Commission in 1959. In 1960 he tried unsuccessfully to return to Congress. Between 1970 and 1974 he was a member of the Federal Trade Commission . Otherwise he worked as a private businessman. He died on September 21, 2001 in Warren, where he was also buried.
