Cyrus Spink

Cyrus Spink (born March 24, 1793 in Berkshire County , Massachusetts , †  May 31, 1859 in Wooster , Ohio ) was an American politician . In 1859 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1815, Cyrus Spink came to Ohio's Stark County . In the local city of Kendal he was employed as a teacher for a few years. Until 1832 he held several local offices in Ohio, including land surveying and district auditor. Between 1821 and 1822 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives . After 1832 he worked in the trade in Wooster. Politically, he initially belonged to the Whig Party . In 1846 he was a member of the State Board of Equalization and in June 1852 he participated as a delegate at the Whigs federal party convention . He later joined the Republican Party, founded in 1854 . In 1856 he became a director of the Ohio Penitentiary.

In the congressional election of 1858 Spink was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 14th  constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Philemon Bliss on March 4, 1859 . He fell ill shortly after the election. He died on May 31, 1859, before the inaugural session of Congress .
