William E. Hess (1955)

William Emil Hess (* 13. February 1898 in Cincinnati , Ohio ; † 14. July 1986 ) was an American politician of the Republican Party . From 1929 to 1937 1939 to 1949 and from 1951 to 1961 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the second  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

William Emil Hess was born in Cincinnati. There he attended the University of Cincinnati after attending public schools . During the First World War he served in the US Army . In 1919 he was admitted to the bar. In the same year he opened a law firm in Cincinnati. From 1922 to 1926, Hess sat on the Cincinnati City Council.

Hess was the first time in 1928 elected to the US House of Representatives. There he sat almost continuously until 1961 as a representative of the 2nd District of Ohio, his term of office was only interrupted from 1937 to 1939 and from 1949 to 1951. After his final retirement from Congress in 1961, he returned to his legal practice in Cincinnati. He lived there until his death in 1986. He was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery .
