J. Edward Russell (1906)

Joshua Edward Russell (born August 9, 1867 near Sidney , Ohio , †  June 21, 1953 ) was an American politician . Between 1915 and 1917 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Russell attended his home public schools and Sidney High School . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1893, he began to work in this profession in Sydney. In the years 1894 and 1895 he was a member of the local education committee; from 1895 to 1899 he was the legal representative of his hometown. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1905 and 1908 he was a member of the Ohio Senate .

In the 1914 congressional election , Russell was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Democrat J. Henry Goeke on March 4, 1915 . Since he was not confirmed in 1916, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1917 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. Edward Russell died on June 21, 1953 in his hometown of Sidney. He was married to Jennie Laughlin, with whom he had a child.
