James AD Richards

James Alexander Dudley Richards (born March 22, 1845 in Boston , Massachusetts , †  December 4, 1911 in New Philadelphia , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1895 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Richards grew up in Boston and New York City , where he attended public schools. In 1861 he moved to New Philadelphia, Ohio. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1867, he began to work there in his new profession. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 1892 congressional election , Richards was elected to the 17th  electoral district of Ohio in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Albert J. Pearson on March 4, 1893 . Since he was not confirmed in 1894, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1895 . During this time he was chairman of the Ministry of Post's Expenditure Control Committee.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, James Richards practiced as a lawyer first in Washington and then again in New Philadelphia, where he died on December 4, 1911.
