Marcia L. Fudge (born October 29, 1952 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ) and has represented the state of Ohio in the House of Representatives of the United States since November 2008 .

Life

Fudge attended Shaker Heights High School . After graduating from school in 1971, she studied at Ohio State University in Columbus , where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1975 . She then studied at the Cleveland State University belonging Cleveland Marshall College of Law and received in 1983 a Juris Doctor . Fudge was now practicing as a lawyer . She also held several positions as director in Cuyahoga County . She served on the staff of Congressman Stephanie Tubbs Jones in 1999 and 2000 . Between 2000 and 2008, Fudge was mayor of Warrensville Heights , Ohio, making it the first woman and the first African American to hold this office.

After the death of Stephanie Jones, she was elected in the by-election in the 11th Congressional electoral district of Ohio as her successor in the US House of Representatives, where she took up her mandate on November 18, 2008 . They were re-elected in the subsequent regular congress elections, most recently in 2018. She is or has been a member of the Agriculture Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee and three sub-committees. In addition, she belongs or was a member of two Congressional Caucuses . Between 2013 and 2015 she headed the Congressional Black Caucus .

From 1996 to 2000 she was president of the Delta Sigma Theta student association .
