Betty Sue Sutton (born July 31, 1963 in Barberton , Ohio ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . From 2007 to 2013, it belonged to the United States House of Representatives for the 13th  congressional district of the state of Ohio. She is applying for the position of lieutenant governor of Ohio in 2018.

Betty Sutton was born in Barberton, Ohio. After attending the public schools in her hometown, she studied Political Science at Kent State University , where she received a Bachelor of Arts . She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Akron . In 1990 she was elected to the Barberton City Council. In 1993 she was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives. At 28, she was the youngest MP ever elected and remained so until 2000. After she left the House of Representatives in her home state, she practiced as a lawyer.

Sutton was elected to the US House of Representatives in the 2006 election to succeed Sherrod Brown . As of January 3, 2007, she represented Ohio's 13th Congressional constituency. She was able to defend her seat in 2008 and 2010 . She was a member of the Committee on Armed Services and the Committee on Natural Resources . In the 2012 election, she was defeated by her Republican competitor Jim Renacci and left Congress on January 3, 2013.

In the 2018 election , Sutton intended to run for governor of Ohio. On January 10, 2018, she withdrew her candidacy, but at the same time announced that she would run as vice-governor candidate alongside Richard Cordray . After their victory in the party primary in May 2018, they will stand together in the main election in November 2018 against Republicans Mike DeWine and his running mate Jon A. Husted .

Betty Sutton is married to Doug Corwon and lives in Copley Township .
