Willis David "Bill" Gradison (* 28. December 1928 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . From 1975 to 1993 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the first and second  congressional districts of the State of Ohio.

biography

Bill Gradison was born in Cincinnati. In 1949 he graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts . He received his Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University in 1951 . He also completed his doctorate in 1954 at Harvard University. He then worked as an investment banker . From 1953 to 1955 he was Assistant to the US Secretary of the Treasury. He was assistant to the US Secretary of Health from 1955 to 1957. He then worked as a lawyer. From 1961 to 1974 he was a member of the Cincinnati City Council. In 1971 he was the successor to Eugene P. Ruehlmann mayor of Cincinnati .

In the 1974 congressional elections he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a representative of the 1st District of Ohio. Based on the results of the 1980 census, he swapped districts with his predecessor Tom Luken , the representative of the 2nd district. From then on, he represented the 2nd district until 1993. He resigned from his mandate in 1993 and was succeeded by Rob Portman .

Bill Gradison was married three times, from 1950 to 1974 to Helen Ann Martin. He has five daughters with her. In 1980 he married Heather J. Gradison (born September 6, 1952 as Heather Jane Stirton). This was from 1985 to 1989 chairman of the Interstate Commerce Commission . He has four children with her. In 1995 he married Cari Elliot.
