Daniel R. Tilden

Daniel Rose Tilden (born November 5, 1804 in Lebanon , New London County , Connecticut , † March 4, 1890 in Cleveland , Ohio ) was an American politician with the United States Whig Party . March 4, 1843 to March 3, 1847, he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 19th  congressional district of the state of Ohio.

biography

Tilden was born in Lebanon . There he attended the local public schools. For several years he lived in Virginia and South Carolina . In 1828 he moved to Ohio, where he settled first in Garrettsville and later in Warren . He studied law with Rufus P. Spalding . In 1836 both were admitted to the bar. Together they opened a law firm in Ravenna . Tilden was then from 1838 to 1841 district attorney in Portage County .

As a representative of the Whig Party, Tilden was first elected to the US House of Representatives in 1843. He was able to defend his seat once. In 1847 he left the House . In 1852 he moved to Cleveland. From 1855 to 1888 Tilden served as a judge in Cuyahoga County . He died in Cleveland in 1890.

Tilden was married three times in his life. His last marriage was with Cornelia Lossing. All marriages were childless.
