Paul Fearing

Paul Fearing (* 28. February 1762 in Wareham , Plymouth County , Province of Massachusetts Bay ; † 21st August 1822 in Marietta , Ohio ) was an American politician of the Federalist Party . From 1801 to 1803 he was a delegate of the Northwest Territory in the House of Representatives of the United States .

biography

Paul Fearing was born in Wareham, Massachusetts. In 1785 he graduated from Harvard University in law and was admitted to the bar in 1787. In May 1788 he moved to Fort Hamar, now part of Marietta, in the Northwest Territory. There he opened a law firm, he was the first lawyer in what was then the Northwest Territory. In 1797 he was appointed debt restructuring judge. From 1799 to 1801 he was a member of the territorial parliament.

From 1801 to 1803 he was a delegate of the Northwest Territory in the US House of Representatives. In the congressional elections in 1802 , he could no longer run for election. He resumed his practice as a lawyer and was also active in the fruit and cattle breeding business. Fearing held various legal positions until his death in 1822. He died in Marietta and was buried in Harmer Cemetery.
