Fernando C. Layton

Fernando Coello Layton (born April 11, 1847 in Auglaize County , Ohio , †  June 22, 1926 in Wapakoneta , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1897 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Fernando Layton attended public schools in his home country and then Wittenberg College in Springfield . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1869, he began to work in this profession in Wapakoneta. In the following years he also worked as a County School Examiner . Between 1875 and 1878, Layton served as the district attorney in Auglaize County. From 1878 to 1883 he was a captain in the Ohio National Guard. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1890 Layton was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded George E. Seney on March 4, 1891 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1897 . Since 1893 he represented there as the successor of Martin K. Gantz the fourth district of his state. In 1896 he renounced another candidacy.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Layton initially practiced as a lawyer again. Between 1908 and 1926 he served as an appeal judge. He resigned from this post on June 9, 1926. He died a few days later, on June 22nd, in Wapakoneta, where he was also buried.
