reception

"On the one hand, Franz Schwarzinger is an artist for whom the image of man is really central, on the other hand he has a concept of the human being who understands the creature much more than we perceive it in the narrower sense of the present day ... He is the one on the one hand one of the proven colorists, he works almost exclusively in monochrome ... in deep metaphysical colors, on the other hand he draws with a brush. This is a tradition that also exists in Austria ... the drawing painter ... and that introduces a lightness of its own, a Buddhist, a Hindu lightness into his art that has always fascinated me. ... "

(from TV film, 2011, production: Art Movement)

“Franz Schwarzinger is one of those few artists in Austria whose extensive oeuvre cannot be reduced to either drawing or painting. For him, the starting point of his oeuvre is always the drawing, ultimately the drawing. From this he develops pictorial inventions that are characterized by the hybridity of drawing and painting. ... He has developed an art discourse that does not make any technical-material separations and no longer makes any distinction between the types of images ... This transmediality is a defining characteristic of his way of working and image solutions. ... "
