John G. Warwick

John George Warwick (born December 23, 1830 in County Tyrone , United Kingdom , †  August 14, 1892 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . In 1891 and 1892 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Warwick attended public schools in his Northern Irish homeland. Around 1850 he emigrated to America with his brother. For some time he lived in Philadelphia . Then he moved to Navarre , Ohio, where he became an accountant in a dry goods store . He then worked in a haberdashery shop in the city of Massillon . Later he also got into the milling industry, coal mining and agriculture. He also got involved with the railroad, where he promoted the expansion of the rail network. He later became a member of the board of a railway company. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Between 1884 and 1886 he was Lieutenant Governor of Ohio.

In the congressional election of 1892 Warwick was elected in the 16th  electoral district of Ohio against the future US President William McKinley in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded James W. Owens on March 4, 1893 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on August 14, 1892. He died of food poisoning at a railroad banquet in New York City .
