Andrew Graham McBurney (born November 13, 1817 in Hamilton County , Ohio , †  April 23, 1894 in Lebanon , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1866 and 1868 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Ohio.

Career

Andrew McBurney grew up in Lebanon in Warren County , where he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter until 1836. After later studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1843, he began to work in this profession. He became a partner of Thomas Corwin , who later became, among other things, US Senator and Governor of Ohio. Politically, McBurney initially joined the Democratic Party . He joined the Republicans in the early 1860s . Between 1861 and 1865 he was a member of the Ohio Senate .

In 1865 McBurney was elected lieutenant governor of Ohio alongside Jacob Dolson Cox . He held this office between 1866 and 1868. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In the presidential election of 1868 he was one of the electors who officially elected General Ulysses S. Grant as US president . After serving as Lieutenant Governor, he returned to practice as a lawyer. Andrew McBurney died in Lebanon on April 23, 1894.
