Career

There are hardly any usable sources about Silas Conrad. What is certain is that he was both born and died in Ohio. He worked at least temporarily as a hardware dealer and was a member of the Republican Party . In 1886 Vice Governor Robert P. Kennedy was elected to the US House of Representatives, where he took office on March 4, 1887. On March 3, Conrad succeeded him in the office of lieutenant governor, which he held until 1888. He was Deputy Governor Joseph B. Foraker and formal chairman of the State Senate . This fact suggests that he was previously President Pro Tempore of the State Senate. However, there is no corresponding reference in the sources. After his time as Lieutenant Governor, Silas Conrad did not appear politically. He died on September 11, 1913 in Massillon, Stark County , where he was also buried.
